Wilma H. Sanderson, age 94, of Lexington, NE formerly of Arapahoe, NE died Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Tri-County Area Hospital, Lexington, NE. She was born in Franklin, Nebraska on October 11, 1910 to George & Hattie (Chitwood) Carpenter.
She attended school in Franklin before moving to Edison where she graduated from high school. She then attended the La Du Beauty Academy in Kansas City, Missouri and was one of the first licensee’s in the State of Nebraska for Beauticians. She operated a beauty shop in Arapahoe before her marriage to Merlin Sanderson in 1936.
After living in California during World War II, they moved back to Oxford, NE to work with his family on the farm. After her husband Merlin passed away in 1975, she moved to Arapahoe for a number of years before moving to Lexington to be closer to her family.
She was a member of the PEO in Arapahoe, NE and the First United Methodist Church in Oxford, & later Arapahoe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Granddaughter Brenda Casteel, 11 brothers & sisters.
She is survived by her Son: Newel & wife Diana Sanderson of Lexington, NE
Daughter: Sandra & husband Bruce Swan of Weston, Connecticut
Viewing and visitation is Sunday, December 26, 2004 from 1 PM till 9 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, in Arapahoe, NE and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Monday, December 27, at 1:30 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, NE with Rev. Onamae Waddel and Pastor Lana Dake, officiating. Burial is at the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, NE. Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, NE which is in charge of the arrangements.
