Rodney (Sonny) Otto Hinz, age 77, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska. Sonny was born June 12, 1937 at the family farm in Gosper County, Nebraska to Otto and Jennie (Hormann) Hinz. Sonny was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and later transferred membership to the United Methodist Church of Arapahoe. Sonny attended Arapahoe High School. He worked for the Upward & Sons Filling station, Arapahoe Coop and the Edison Coop. On June 19, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ina Watson. To this union, two sons were born, Tony and Ed. She preceded him in death on January 26, 1975. On December 3, 1978 he was united in marriage to Pearl Allen Menze. Sonny was one of the individuals that helped with the construction of the Arapahoe Golf Course. When Sonny and Pearl were not working, you would always find the two of them together, either on the golf course, fishing, working in the yard and garden or taking trips. They always referred to their one day trips as making memories that they could share in later years. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ina, a brother Frank and three sisters, Ida Matthes, Helen Helzer and Evelyn Nichols. Survivors include his wife Pearl Hinz of Arapahoe, Nebraska sons Tony and his wife Ginger of Beatrice, Nebraska Ed Hinz of Arapahoe, Nebraska 2 grandsons Jesse of Fargo, North Dakota and Nick of Beatrice brother-in-law Dale and his wife Jean Allen of Cambridge, Nebraska sister-in-law Margaret and her husband Jerry Chipps of Kearney, Nebraska and sister in law Edith Ann Hinz of Arapahoe as well as a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Condolences or personal reflections can be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com Viewing and visitation will be Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 1 PM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor Becky Saddler, officiating. Interment will be at 2 PM on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Fairview Cemetery at Cambridge, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
