Nellie Mae Hammond

Nellie Mae Hammond, age 90, of McCook, Nebraska formerly of Curtis, Nebraska passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Hillcrest Nursing Home at McCook, Nebraska. She was born on March 20, 1924, at Curtis, Nebraska to Sam & Daisy (Walker) Wood. Nellie married Gail Hammond and were blessed with over 50 years before his passing. They farmed between the Moorefield & Curtis area. During World War II she was a seamstress in Pennsylvania. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and card parties. She also was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, Neighborly Belle’s of Moorefield, Nebraska and the United Methodist Church of Curtis. She later moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home due to health reasons. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and all her brothers & sisters, one grandson Nathan, and 2 great grandsons Rowan & Dalton. She is survived by her son Denny Hammond of Moorefield, Nebraska Daughters: Janet & husband Marty Maaske of Holbrook, Nebraska Dorothy Harms and Marilyn Davisson both of North Platte, Nebraska 7 Grandchildren: Tyson(Clancy)Hammond, Ryan(Mary)Hammond, Kanen(Meghan)Hammond, Brenen(Maysa) Hammond, Nolan Hammond, Matt(Jamie)Nutt, Josh(Danelle)Nutt, Kelly(Candace)Maaske, Keith(Christina) Maaske, Son-in-law: Dean & wife Cathy Nutt Daughter-in-law: Cece Hammond Great Grandchildren: 14 Condolences or personal reflections can be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com Viewing and visitation will be Monday, January 12, 2015 from 10 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 2 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Curtis, Nebraska with Pastor Bonnie Forney, officiating. Interment will be at the Curtis Cemetery at Curtis, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to Hillcrest Nursing Home of McCook, Nebraska or Senior Living Choices of Curtis, Nebraska.
