Melvin Lee Weber, age 74, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2007 at his home north of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born on November 11, 1932 in Gosper County, Nebraska, to Herman & Marie (Ritschel) Weber. He was baptized, educated, & confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, north of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was a graduate of Arapahoe High School with the Class of 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952. He served 18 months in Guam. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge and took two cruises to the Orient, and serving off the Korean coast during the Korean War. After four years in the Navy, he worked in Hastings, Nebraska. He then returned home to farm. In 1962, he was united in marriage with Cathleen Cox Hanson in Arapahoe, Nebraska, and together raised 2 daughter Jane & Ann Hanson, and a foreign exchange student son Flabio Schiavon. They resided and farmed north of Arapahoe, Nebraska for over forty years. He left farming and worked as a truck driver for Weverka Sand & Gravel and Ag Valley Coop in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was always a sports enthusiast. He played football and was active in Elwood & Arapahoe baseball programs. He was a member and served as commander of Arapahoe American Legion Post #96, was also a member and served as a Senior Warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Lieta Koch & Elsie Koch, 3 brothers Harold, Heinz, & Leon Weber. He is survived by his wife Cathy Weber of Arapahoe, Nebraska Daughters: Jane Hanson of Iowa City, Iowa Ann & husband Raymond Kansier of Lincoln, Nebraska Brother: Arnold Weber of North Platte, Nebraska Sister: Walberga Brown of Hastings, Nebraska Grandchildren: 5 Foreign Exchange Son: Flabio Schiavon & wife Vanessa of Curitiba, Brazil Condolences & personal reflections may be left at http://www.wenburgfuneralhome.com/ Viewing & visitation will be Sunday, October 21, from 1 PM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska. Casket will not be open at the Church. Funeral Services will be Monday, October 22, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, at Arapahoe, Nebraska, with Rev. Jami Anderson, officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Furnas-Gosper County Museum of Arapahoe, Nebraska. Military rites provided by the Arapahoe American Legion Post #96. Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
