It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Katherine Loraine Carver (Riley), of Bird City, Kansas, who left this world on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the age of 78 at Kearney Regional Medical Center, Kearney, Nebraska, surrounded by family. She was born on September 9th, 1947 in McCook, Nebraska to Nellie & Roy Riley.
She married the love of her life February 7, 1965 at the Church of the Nazarene in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Milo and Katherine had three children Milo “Bub” Carver, Ralinda Hendrickson, and Dee Anna Carver. Katherine was so much more than the dates that marked her life. She was a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend. To those who knew and loved her, she was simply an irreplaceable presence. No matter the time or distance, she was only a phone call away.
In her younger years, she looked forward to Friday nights at the bowling alley, where she bowled in a league and sometimes found herself competing against her brother and sister-in-law. Those evenings were filled with friendship, family, laughter, and a little rivalry. As she grew older, she came to enjoy the simple comforts in life, like watching her favorite soap operas, enjoying a bowl of ice cream, a glass of orange juice and spending time visiting with family.
She had a heart for helping others and was the kind of person who would do just about anything for someone she cared about. Her loyalty and generosity knew few limits, and she often put the needs of others before her own. Her presence brought comfort, warmth, and strength, and her absence will leave a
space that can never truly be filled.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Milo Carver; her brothers Evan, Robert, Royce, Rickey; her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, as well as a great-great grandson on the way.
She was welcomed home by her parents Nellie and Roy Riley; Her brothers Leo Riley and Arthur Riley; her sister, Shirley Stately; and her three children Milo Carver, Ralinda Hendrickson and Dee Carver.
While we are heartbroken to say goodbye, we are incredibly grateful for the years of love she gave us. We will carry her with us in our stories, in our traditions, and in the pieces of ourselves that she helped shape. Katherine was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
A viewing for family, and close friends will be on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, from 5 pm till 7 pm at Gareys Funeral Chapel, 652 Main St. Arapahoe, Nebraska. Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, September 9th, 2026 at 11 AM at Gareys Funeral Chapel in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor Kevin Dixson, officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service next to her children in Edison Cemetery, Edison, Nebraska.
