Arapahoe, Nebraska Jack Lee DeVries, age 73, of Arapahoe, Nebraska died on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on September 9, 1938 at Arapahoe, Nebraska to Tobias & Elsie Clara (Hein) DeVries. He grew up in Arapahoe, Nebraska and attended Arapahoe High School graduating with the class of 1957. After school, he helped his parents on the farm for 2 years and worked for his sister Mary Bockerman and her husband Raymond. In the summer of 1960, he went to Toledo, Ohio for schooling in Meat Cutting, and returned to work at Custom Pack in Hastings, Nebraska. He served time in the U.S. Navy from June of 1961 to June of 1965. He would come back to Arapahoe and work at Bellamy’s John Deere for 3 years and Arapahoe Coop as a tank wagon driver. In 1971, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked 20 years as a bartender. He would then return to Arapahoe, Nebraska and lived at Sunshine Village. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He volunteered at the Arapahoe Senior Center while also serving on the board of directors. He enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, playing cards, and social events at the Sunshine Village. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother John Wayne DeVries, brother-in-laws Stanley Alexander, Raymond Bockerman, Richard Frogge, sister-in-law Diane DeVries, nieces Shelly DeVries, Barb Bockerman, nephews Bruce & Duane DeVries. He is survived by Brothers: Carl & wife Audre DeVries of Beaver City, Nebraska Bud & wife Gwen DeVries of Arapahoe, Nebraska Glenn & wife Jo DeVries of Trumbull, Nebraska Leonard & wife Wyoma DeVries of Inland, Nebraska Harold & wife Kathy DeVries of Lincoln, Nebraska Charles DeVries of Arapahoe, Nebraska Sisters: Mary Bockerman of Arapahoe, Nebraska Dorothy & husband Harry Wilson of Inland, Nebraska Elsie Frogge of Grand Island, Nebraska Phyllis Alexander of Grand Island, Nebraska Sister-in-law: Marilyn DeVries of Yuma, Arizona Condolences and personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com There will be no viewing and visitation as cremation was chosen. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. James Moshier, officiating. Inurnment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, at Arapahoe, Nebraska. Military rites presented by Edison American Legion. Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements
