Arapahoe, Nebraska Jack Henry DeOss, age 80, died on August 17, 2008 at his home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born on November 27, 1927 at Holbrook, Nebraska to Francis H. & Ollie M. (McClelland) DeOss. He attended school at Holbrook High School and graduated with the class of 1946. After school, he went into the Army and served during the Korean War. After his time in the service, he married Lola Pearl Sayer on May 30, 1954 at Cambridge, Nebraska. He began working for Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad. His job would take them to various southwest Nebraska & northwest Kansas towns, until they settled in Holbrook, Nebraska. He would retire in 1989 after 47 years of service. His wife passed away on October 14, 1995. In 2006, he would move into Arapahoe, Nebraska. He enjoyed horseshoe pitching and in 1999, he and his son David DeOss won the Nebraska Walking Doubles Horseshoe Pitching title. He would also attend many world tournaments. He was a member of the Burton's Bend VFW Post #9357 of Holbrook, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lola, son Daniel Eugene DeOss, 2 sisters Mary Lou Walker & Joy Mae Arendell. He is survived by sons: Steven DeOss of Holbrook, Nebraska David & wife Linda DeOss of Columbus, Nebraska Douglas DeOss of Cadiz, Ohio Daughter: Christine DeOss of Arapahoe, Nebraska Brother: William J. & wife Betty DeOss of Garden Grove, California Grandchildren: 7 Great-Grandchildren: 3 Condolences and personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com Casket open prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, August 22, 2008 at 1:30 PM at the River Valley Evangelical Free Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor Doug Rohr, officiating. Burial will be at the Holbrook Cemetery, Holbrook, Nebraska. Military rites given by the Burton's Bend VFW Post #9357 of Holbrook, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
