Galen Roger Carter

Galen Roger Carter, age 72, passed away of natural causes on June 2, 2012 at Dixie Regional Medical Hospital in St. George, Utah. He was born on February 25, 1940, in Oxford, Nebraska, to Walter and Mathilda (ten Bensel) Carter. Galen graduated from Arapahoe High School, class of 1958. Following graduation, he worked for the CB&Q railroad. He then served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electronic Technician flying VP50 radar seaplanes in Japan. That is where he met and married the mother of his children, Aiko Fujimoto. Upon returning to Nebraska, Galen worked as an electrician, then Technical Supervisor, and eventually a Production Manager at Plectron Corporation and ISSI. Galen eventually returned to Japan with Aiko to teach Conversational English. Once retired, Galen moved to Mesquite, NV, where he lived out his dream of being an amateur geologist, outdoor adventurer and avid rock hound. "Carter" as his friends called him, was a founding member of the Outdoor Club of Mesquite and was the Club's current Vice-President. He truly enjoyed Nevada's rugged environment. Recently, he donated his massive collection of semiprecious stones, gems, fossils, minerals, ocean corals, and beach shells for educational purposes to the Nevada State Division of Gems and Minerals, local schools, Veterans, and Community Garden Centers and members of the Outdoor Club of Mesquite. Galen is survived by his son, Cliff and his wife Jody of Victorville, CA and granddaughters, Jordan and Ryanne; daughter, Susan Saldivar and her husband Jeff of Katy, TX and granddaughter, Amanda; son James and his wife Rita of Sandwich, MA and granddaughter Aiko and grandson Jake. He is also survived by his brothers, Don Carter and his wife Lori of Rock Springs, WY; and Richard Carter and his wife Lou of McCook, NE; and sisters, Carol Pinn and her husband Orville of Culbertson, NE; and Bonnie Johnson and her husband Meryl of Eden Prarie, MN; and brother-in-law Frank Weatherwax of Niobrara NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mathilda Carter and sister Jean Weatherwax. Condolences and personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in his hometown of Arapahoe, Nebraska, at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
