Frank Delbert Weatherwax, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born on Friday, October 13th, 1926 to Willie Delbert and Opal Lois (Odell) Weatherwax in Union Township, Furnas County. He grew up on the family farm with his older sister Lois and attended elementary school at rural District #58. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1945. Immediately after graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served for two years as a Military Policeman advancing to the rank of corporal. He was honorably discharged from 1201st ASU, MP & PG Det., Fort Jay, Governor’s Island, New York City, NY. He then returned to the family farm to work with his father. He married Jean Elizabeth Carter on July 16, 1950. To this union two children were born, Mona Jean and Mark Allen. In 1958, he began selling seed for Robinson Seed Company of Waterloo, NE, first as Funk’s G Hybrids and later Golden Harvest. He continued as a salesman for 35 years serving numerous farmers in the area. In 1987, Frank and Jean moved to Arapahoe. He continued to farm part-time and worked for Anderson’s Livestock. He faithfully took care of his wife Jean during her struggle with Parkinson’s disease until her passing on September 11, 1996. He married Viola E. Konken on October 10, 1998 at Niobrara, NE and lived there until entering assisted living and later fullcare in Arapahoe, NE. He was baptized and became a member of First Methodist Church of Arapahoe on September 3, 1950. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, his sister Lois and brothers-in-law Elmer Voss, Lloyd (Bud) Hahn, W. Donald Carter, Galen Carter and Orville Pinn. Survivors include his wife Viola of Niobrara, NE; daughter Mona of Niobrara, NE; son Mark and wife Lesli of Arapahoe, NE. Grandchildren: Malinda DuBois of Lincoln, NE; Erica Weatherwax of Wahoo, NE; Lynze, Andrew and Maggie Weatherwax of Arapahoe, NE. He is also survived by four step-children: Lee (Sandy) Konken of Ft. Myers, FL; Bob (Carol) Konken of Patterson, NY, Pat (Rick) McElhaney of Waterloo, IA and John (LeAnn) Konken of Stockbridge, GA as well as 10 stepgrandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by brother-in-law Richard (Lula Mae) Carter of McCook, NE; sisters-in-law Lori Carter of Rock Springs, WY, Carol Pinn of Sioux Falls, SD and Bonnie (Meryl) Johnson of Eden Prairie, MN and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Arapahoe, NE with Rev. Becky Saddler, officiating. Inurnment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, NE. Military rites given by Arapahoe American Legion and US Army Honor Guard. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
