Frank Glenn Kinsman was born September 11, 1924 at his home near Edison, in Furnace County, Nebraska to Fred Joshua and Hattie Marie (Durst) Kinsman, the first of two children. He passed away the day of his wife’s funeral on the evening of Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont at the age of 95. As a young boy, “Glenn”, as he was affectionately known, attended school in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1942. Following high school, he assisted his father with the farm work and in 1944, during WWII, he enlisted in the US Navy and was discharged in 1946. When Glenn was discharged from the service, he returned to the farm. On May 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marguerite J. “Peg” Crawford and they moved to Friend. To this union a daughter, Glenda and two sons, Mark and Lee were born. They purchased the Dairy Queen Drive In and changed the name to Daisy Queen which they continued to operate for 38 years, retiring in 1989. In addition to operating the Daisy Queen business, Glenn also drove a school bus for the Friend Public School District for 25 years. Glenn was an active supporter of the City as a member of the Jaycees, the Friend Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion #183 and the United Methodist Church. He served on the board of the Friend Recreation Association when the new golf course was designed and built and remained a member and active golfer for many years, even shooting 3 holes-in-one. Glenn was a member of the planning committee that built Friendship Terrace and continued to serve on the board for several years. He was also a member of the City Library Board of Directors. In his spare-time, in addition to golf, he loved to bowl. Glenn is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Dean Griess, Sutton, sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Julie Kinsman, Peoria, AZ and Lee and Regina Kinsman, Crocker, MO, five grandchildren and spouses, Chandra and J.R. Muske, Hastings, Ryan and Katie Griess, Sutton, Ginny and Erik Van Duyn, Amy Kinsman and Jacob Kinsman, all of Peoria, AZ, six great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry and Nancy Crawford, Stafford, VA, Jay Dee and Kathe Crawford, Omaha, NE, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Peg, on February 12, 2020, brother and sister-in-law, Art and Marvis Kinsman, and a granddaughter, Erin Michelle Kinsman. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Friend United Methodist Church, with Pastor Paixao Baptista officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery, Friend, with military services conducted by the Friend American Legion. Visitation is one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church. Pallbearers are: J.R. Muske, Ryan Griess, Kurt Kinsman, Jim Moore, Davy Ehly and Loren Huber. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ron Styskal, Orville Himmelberg, Leo Stokes and Roy Horner. Memorials have been established to the church.
