Floyd Duane Breinig

Arapahoe, Nebraska Floyd Duane Breinig, age 77, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Duane, or more affectionately Corky, was born on August 10, 1933 to Floyd & Mamie (King) Breinig on a farm southwest of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1950. On February 28, 1954, Duane married the love of his life, Barbara Land at the Arapahoe Methodist Church. To this union, four children were born Steve, Vickie, Scott and Wendy. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 until 1957 as a communications officer. Upon returning home to Arapahoe, he farmed and lived on the home place until spring of 2010. Due to poor health, he moved to Holdrege to live with daughter Wendy and her family and then later to Holdrege Memorial Homes until the time of his death. Farming and his family were most important to Corky. He was no stranger to hard work and long hours working the land. Custom harvesting was special to Corky—so much so that he would have rather been deep in a wheat field than on a five-star cruise. He enjoyed Husker football games and traveled with his wife and family to many regular season and bowl games. A bright spot for Corky was his grandchildren, and he proudly supported them in their many activities. He was a member of the Arapahoe Christian Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, brother Charles and sister Eula Faye (Fritz) McCoy, sister-in-laws Earline (and husband Bob) Kruse, Shirley (and husband Leo) Tawzer and June Breinig. He is survived by children Steve and Ruth Breinig of Lincoln, Nebraska Vickie and Jim Traver of Elmwood, Nebraska Scott and Pam Breinig of Arapahoe, Nebraska Wendy and Mike Pruitt of Holdrege, Nebraska Grandchildren: 11 Great grand daughters: 4 Sister Lula and husband Chuck Six and Brother Vic and Kelli Breinig, both of Arapahoe, NE Condolences or personal reflections can be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com Viewing & Visitation will be Saturday, January 29, from 1 PM till 8 PM and Sunday, January 30, from 1 PM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, Arapahoe, Nebraska.
