Edwin Gustav Emil Bloch

Edwin Gustav Emil Bloch, age 98, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born on March 20, 1921 in Gosper County, Nebraska on the Bloch homestead to Emil G. and Agnes (Marquardt) Bloch, the 2nd of seven children. He was baptized on April 24, 1921 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gosper County, by Pastor A.L. Gressens. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School through the 8th grade and was confirmed by Pastor Martin Schabacker on May 26, 1935. His confirmation verse was John 3:16. Because of hard times, he worked away from home earning money by laboring in the beet fields and feedlots of the Lexington area. In 1951, Edwin started farming and caring for his parents on the Bloch Farm. Following his dad’s death in 1974, he moved to Elwood with his mother where he continued to farm and care for her. He was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Edwin thoroughly enjoyed his leisure time at the Elwood Senior Center, playing cards and pool. He met his beloved wife, Lucille, and they were married in October 18, 1997 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. They then moved to Hastings, Nebraska where they made their home until Lucille’s passing in 2002. During his marriage, he enjoyed many first-in-a-lifetime experiences, boating, football games, movies, bus tours, and the like. After Lucille’s death, Edwin moved back to Arapahoe and lived at the Prairie Pines Retirement Home. In 2007, he became a resident of the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home. He always participated in the activities offered there, especially enjoying bowling, playing cards, bingo, musical entertainment, and Bible studies. He rarely missed the men’s weekly coffee sessions because he liked to be in the know. Once Edwin’s eyesight deteriorated, he relied on the radio, specifically KRVN, to listen to ball games, the local church services, and the Lutheran Hour. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 15, 2020. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Lucille, brothers Harold (Elvira), Walter, Leonard (Shirley), Emil (Karen); one sister Elda Stillman (Kenneth), brother-in-law Ted Luhman, Step-son Keith White, and Step-grandson Cody White. Those remaining to celebrate Edwin’s life; sister Elfrieda Luhman of Arapahoe, Nebraska, sister-in-law Pauline Bloch of Seymore, Indiana, Step-daughter’s Candace White of Hastings, Nebraska and Judy Schmidt of Topeka, Kansas; stepgrandchildren: Seth white, Justin Schmidt, Brandy Roy-Bachman, and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 9:30 AM prior to the service at the Trinity Lutheran Church, at Arapahoe, Nebraska.
