Arapahoe, Nebraska Duane A. "Red" Breinig, age 68, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008 at his home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born on December 27, 1939 on the family farm north of Arapahoe in Furnas County, Nebraska to Francis & Elsie (Dudden) Breinig. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Bruce and Gardner country schools until the 8th grade. In the spring of 1953, he publicly confessed his faith and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He attended Arapahoe High School and graduated with the class of 1957. Following graduation, he joined the Army and served his country from 1959-61. He was stationed both stateside and in Korea. Upon finishing his military service, he returned to Arapahoe, Nebraska and farmed until 1998. He was also employed by Sands Pork from 1991 to 1998. On May 1, 1966 he married Janice L. Evertson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Nebraska. He was active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska and served on the Education Board, usher, & attended men's Bible Study. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #343 of Edison, Nebraska. Duane, also known as "Red" to his friends, was said to have "never known a stranger." He had a loving heart and a good sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and spend time with friends and family. Whether it was popcorn at the CO-OP, or coffee at his dining room table, he greeted everyone he knew with a Christian love that many admired and his family can only hope to emulate. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Janice Breinig of Arapahoe, Nebraska Daughters: LeAndra and husband Todd Monie of Arapahoe, Nebraska Jennifer and husband Allen Blake of Cairo, Nebraska Brother: Kenneth & wife Shirley Breinig of Marshalltown, Iowa Grandchildren: 4 (Garrett, Kyla, & Derek Monie, and Cael Blake) Condolences and personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com Viewing and visitation will be Friday, December 26, from 9 AM to 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 27, at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. David Otten, officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska with Edison American Legion Post #343 presenting military rites. Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
