Beaver City, Nebraska Donald W. Hardin, age 86, of Holdrege, Nebraska formerly of Beaver City, Nebraska died Friday, October 17, 2008 at Christian Homes at Holdrege, Nebraska . Don was born November 24, 1921 at Beaver City, Nebraska to Perry & Anna (Gronquist) Hardin. Don was raised on his Grandparents' farm Southeast of Beaver City, Nebraska. He attended rural school district, graduated from Beaver City High School with the Class of 1939. He attended Univ. of Nebraska College of A griculture at Lincoln, Nebraska, which was interrupted by his service in US Army Infantry serving as medical technician in Italy and North Africa . Following his discharge he returned to college and graduated in 1948 from Univ. of Nebraska College of Agriculture at Lincoln, Nebraska . He taught a Veteran's Class "On the Farm Training" for the Government for 2 years in Beaver City . He then worked for Farmers National Co. for 11 years. He married Marian Walcott of Valentine on August 29, 1962 at Broken Bow, Nebraska. He purchased Farmers & Merchants Bank in Edison, Nebraska in 1962 which he managed until his retirement in early 1990's. Prior to his retirement he added the bank at Arapahoe, Nebraska to his holdings and also served on boards of banks such as Haxton, Colorado and Packers National Bank of Omaha . After his retirement from banking he continued to farm until the failure of his health in 1999 at which time he moved to Christian Homes at Holdrege, Nebraska. He was member of First United Methodist Church at Beaver City, Nebr.; Monument Masonic Lodge # 293 at Arapahoe, Nebraska and American Legion Post # 343 of Edison, Nebraska . He also was a past member of the Nebraska Bankers Association. Preceded in death by Parents and Granddaughter Ashley Fattig in 1983. Survivors include his wife: Marian of Kearney, Nebraska 2 Sons: David and wife Laura Hardin of Omaha, Nebraska James and wife Marti Hardin of Aberdeen, Scotland 1 Daughter: Ann & husband Bruce Fattig of Kearney, Nebraska Grandchildren: 8 (Linnea, Emily, Chloe, Tessa Hardin; Eric & Sarah (husband Anthony Heidtbrink) Fattig, Matthew & Cassidy Hardin) Condolences or personal reflections can be left at www.wenburgfuneralhome.com Those who wish my sign his register book at Wenburg Funeral Home, in Beaver City, Nebraska, Thursday & Friday, 1 PM until 7 PM. Memorials may be given for Beaver City Foundation or First United Methodist Church of Beaver City and may be left at funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 25. 2008, at 11 AM at First United Methodist Church at Beaver City, Nebraska with Rev. Robert E. Berlie, Sr., officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City, Nebraska . Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska in charge of arrangements.
