Donald C. Hambidge

Arapahoe, Nebraska Donald C. Hambidge, age 81, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on August 7, 1927 on the family farm north of Arapahoe, Nebraska in Gosper County to Archie L. & Bertha F. (Hoffman) Hambidge. He attended country school at Snyder school in Gosper County and graduated in 1944 from Arapahoe High School. He was baptized at the Episcopal-Methodist Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska in February of 1928 by Rev. R. P. Fegan. He was confirmed on June 20, 1937 at the United Methodist Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He married Carol Jean Cross on November 29, 1953 at the Edison Christian Church, in Edison, Nebraska. They lived in Arapahoe for 7 years and then moved to the family farm north of Arapahoe where he farmed and ranched. This is part of the farm that his grandfather homesteaded. He was a 70 year member of First United Methodist Church, of Arapahoe, & a member of the Arapahoe Grange, serving as president and other offices. He served on the Edison Coop Board for 9 years, and the Gosper County Weed Board, & was also a member of Phelps-Gosper Pork Producers, and Arapahoe Lion’s Club. He was the recipient of the Aksarben Farm Family Award. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Oxford, brother-in-law Delbert Oxford & Allan Dodson, grandson Chadd Hambidge. He is survived by his wife: Carol Jean Hambidge of Arapahoe, Nebraska Sons: Randall & wife Darcy Hambidge of Arapahoe, Nebraska Brian & wife Deb Hambidge of Elwood, Nebraska Daughter: Rita & husband Don Adam of Oskaloosa, Kansas Sister: Doloris Dodson, of Nathrop, Colorado Grandchildren: 7 Condolences and personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, December 31, from 9 AM till 8 PM, at Wenburg Funeral Home, in Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, January 2, at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska, with Pastor George Probasco, officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, in Arapahoe, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska will be in charge of the arrangements.
