Carolyn Sue Brand, age 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2021 due to complications from the COVID virus at the Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska. She was born on June 19, 1941 in Lexington, Nebraska to Ray and Ola (Wilson) Sarr. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Walston, in 1957. To this union three children were born. They lived in Los Angeles, California for several years before returning home to Nebraska. Their marriage ended in 1974. Sue was a single parent. She was a dedicated mother, working up to three jobs to provide for her children. She married her beloved husband, Marvin Brand, in 1980. They lived in Smithfield, Nebraska. Sue was the mayor of the village. Later, they made their home in Elwood. Sue worked various jobs throughout her life. She was a strong, hard working woman. She retired from Benton-Dickinson in Holdrege, Nebraska, after working there for over 30 years. Sue started a cleaning business in Elwood. She took pride in her work and went above and beyond for her clients. She was a character and loved to laugh and give friends a gentle ribbing. Sue also loved cooking, reading, music, holidays, children, meeting up with her coffee crew, Matt Dillon and foremost she loved her family. She would do anything for her family. Proceeded in death by her husband, Marvin Brand, her parents Ray and Ola Sarr, her siblings, Dale Sarr, Donna Satterthwaite, Gerald Sarr, Delma Muldoon, Gene Sarr, Bob Sarr, Ed Sarr, and Darrell Sarr, her grandson Christopher Walston, and many other family members and friends. Survived by her children, Ken (Pam) Walston, Sandy (Gary) VanCleave, Jim Walston, her sister Gerry Noble and brother George Sarr, her daughter-in-law’s Ruthy Smith and Julie Walston, her 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many friends.
