Barbara Pfeiffer (Binder) passed quietly in her sleep in the late-night hours of Sunday, December 21, 2025, finally free from the pain a mortal coil can impart. She was 87.
A native of Chicago, Barbara was still in high school when she met a dashing young man in uniform at a USO dance. That man, Merle Pfeiffer, swept Barbara off her feet and out of the Windy City, bringing her to Arapahoe Nebraska where they spent the following 59 years as founding partners of Pfeiffer Farms, Inc., until Merle’s passing in 2016. In the 9 years since, Barb has maintained the company with her natural business acumen and keen attention to detail.
Always an avid reader, Barb spent endless hours sharing her love of books with her children, Jon and Leesa. Some of their favorite childhood memories are of “Mom reading so long that she started to doze and mispronounce words” but they would beg her to continue because they thought it was so funny.
Barb was also a consummate seamstress which led, quite naturally, to her love of quilting. Barbara was a member of both Lexington Quilt Guild and Nebraska State Quilt Guild. Quilt group became not only a passion but also a social network that allowed regular interaction with many beloved friends.
As a devout Catholic, Barbara was committed to supporting the church’s community in any way she could. Barb never met a challenge that a prayer couldn’t help to fix, and we are comforted in the knowledge that she will continue to pray for us from above.
Barbara is reuniting in heaven with the love of her life, Merle, but she leaves behind her grieving family; Barbara’s son Jon, his wife Julie and their children Michael and Jackson, Jackson’s wife Sarah, and Barbara’s daughter Leesa, her husband Michael Marion, Leesa’s son Maxwell Anderson and Max’s wife Marj.
